Tricone, Single Cone and Roller Cone Product Types

TCI and Steel Tooth tricone bits are complete three-cone rotary bits. Their main difference is the cutting structure. TCI tricone bits use tungsten carbide inserts as cutting elements. Steel tooth tricone bits use teeth formed from the cone steel and are also described as mill tooth or milled tooth tricone bits.

GYD Series Single Cone Rock Bits are complete rotary drilling bits with one rotating cone. They are not replacement cutters for tricone bits.

GP Series Roller Cone Cutters are replaceable cutting components mounted on compatible engineering drilling tools, not complete tricone bits, single cone bits, or hole openers. Rotary Drill-String Supporting Components

Rotary Drill Pipes transmit rotation and drilling loads through the rotary system. Rotary Bit Subs & Adapters connect different drill-string interfaces where the confirmed connection combination requires an adapter or sub.

Not every drilling system requires every component listed on this page. The final arrangement depends on the rig, rotary head, drill-string design, connection interfaces, drilling application, and confirmed operating requirements.

Matching Tricone Drilling Tools to a Rotary System

Tricone drilling tools should not be selected by product name or nominal size alone. Confirm the required bit or cutter type, bit size, IADC where applicable, formation, drill rig and rotary-head information, drill-pipe details, API or other confirmed connection at each relevant interface, and any required bit sub or adapter.

For Single Cone Rock Bits, confirm the complete GYD model, IADC, bit size, API connection, and formation. For Roller Cone Cutters, confirm the GP model, formation and compressive-strength information, receiving tool, mounting arrangement, and available drawings or existing cutter information.

Suitable GYD Single Cone Rock Bit configurations may be considered for slim-hole oil-well drilling and sidetrack requirements; these applications should not be assumed for every product category.
