In a top hammer drilling system, impact energy passes from the rock drill through the shank adapter and drill rod to the bit. Extension rod systems use matching coupling sleeves between rod sections, while corresponding MF rods connect through integrated male and female ends.
MSD top hammer drill bits include threaded button bits, tapered button bits, and reaming bits. Threaded and tapered button bits are selected according to the existing connection system, while reaming bits are used when an existing pilot hole must be enlarged.
The complete tool string also includes top hammer drill rods, shank adapters, and coupling sleeves. Each component must match the adjacent connection and the existing drilling equipment.
