ODEX Casing System

ODEX Casing System

MSD supplies ODEX eccentric casing systems from ODEX85 to ODEX280 for listed casing ODs of 108–325 mm, with DTH hammer options for overburden drilling.

Product Descriptions

MSD supplies ODEX casing systems built around a pilot bit and swing-out eccentric reamer. The reamer opens beyond the casing diameter during drilling so the casing can advance, then retracts within the casing for retrieval of the drilling assembly.

The confirmed range covers ODEX85 to ODEX280, with listed casing ODs from 108 to 325 mm. Casing dimensions, hole size, allowable size, listed hammer options, and weight vary by specification; select from the exact table row rather than the ODEX designation alone.

What Is an ODEX Casing System?

An ODEX casing system is an eccentric casing drilling system used to advance casing while drilling through overburden. Its defining parts are a pilot bit and a swing-out eccentric reamer. This distinguishes the product from a standard concentric system that uses a fixed ring-bit structure, and from separate slide-block and wing mechanisms.

This page covers the ODEX/eccentric product entity and its confirmed specifications. General casing-system comparison belongs to the Casing Systems category, while method-focused questions about ODEX drilling are separate from product selection.

How the Eccentric System Works

During drilling, the eccentric reamer swings outward beyond the casing diameter to open the hole for casing advancement. When the drilling stage is complete, the reamer retracts within the casing so the pilot-bit and reamer assembly can be recovered.

Correct operation depends on the complete drilling assembly and working conditions. Rotation procedure, casing advancement method, and retrieval steps should therefore be confirmed for the selected equipment before use.

Confirmed ODEX Product Range

MSD's confirmed range contains 12 listed specifications from ODEX85 to ODEX280. The corresponding casing ODs run from 108 to 325 mm, and the listed hole sizes run from 117 to 350 mm. These figures describe the endpoints of the listed range; they do not mean that every intermediate dimension is available.

The table also identifies casing ID, tube wall, maximum step size, minimum OD, allowable size, listed hammer options, and weight for each specification. ODEX152 has two listed hammer and weight combinations, so that row must be checked against the intended assembly rather than treated as a single configuration.

Selecting an ODEX Configuration

Begin with the required casing OD and ID, then compare the tube wall, hole size, maximum step size, minimum OD, and allowable size in the same specification row. The ODEX model name alone is not enough to confirm the complete assembly.

Next, check the exact DTH hammer against the options listed for that specification. A hammer family appearing elsewhere in the table does not establish that it fits every ODEX size. Any requirement outside the published combinations should be reviewed before quotation or production.

Overburden Drilling Requirements

ODEX product selection should be based on the actual overburden profile and the casing that must be advanced. Provide the soil and rock description, presence and approximate size of gravel or cobbles, required cased depth, target hole and casing dimensions, drilling method, and equipment information.

The specification table confirms dimensions and listed hammer options, but it does not set universal formation limits, depth limits, penetration rates, service life, or project results. Those points must not be inferred from size alone.

Information to Confirm Before Ordering

To prepare an ODEX casing system quotation, provide the required casing OD, casing ID, tube wall, target hole size, casing length and connection details, exact hammer model, drilling rig information, overburden description, required cased depth, and quantity.

For replacement orders, also provide the current ODEX specification, markings, measured dimensions, and clear photos or drawings. MSD will compare the information with the confirmed table before recommending a configuration.

Why Choose MSD

MSD is a China-based rock drilling tools manufacturer supplying casing systems and related drilling tools. MSD has 23 years of rock drilling tools manufacturing experience, exports to 40+ countries, and operates under ISO 9001 certified quality management.

MSD focuses on reliable quality, correct product selection, and technical support. For an ODEX enquiry, the team reviews the required casing dimensions, hammer, drilling equipment, and ground information before confirming the suitable listed configuration.

Frequently Asked
Questions

An ODEX casing system is an eccentric casing drilling system built around a pilot bit and a swing-out eccentric reamer. The reamer opens beyond the casing diameter during drilling so the casing can advance, then retracts within the casing for retrieval of the drilling assembly.
The confirmed table lists 12 specifications from ODEX85 to ODEX280. Their casing ODs range from 108 to 325 mm, and their listed hole sizes range from 117 to 350 mm. These are the endpoints of the listed configurations and do not indicate that every intermediate size is available.
Start with the required casing OD and ID, then check the tube wall, hole size, maximum step size, minimum OD, and allowable size in the same table row. The ODEX designation alone does not confirm the complete assembly.
Use the hammer options listed for the exact ODEX specification in the confirmed table. The listed options change across the range, and ODEX152 has two hammer and weight combinations. A hammer listed for one size should not be assumed to fit every ODEX configuration.
Provide the required casing OD, casing ID, tube wall, target hole size, casing length and connection details, exact hammer model, drilling rig information, overburden description, required cased depth, and quantity. For replacement orders, also provide the current ODEX specification, markings, measured dimensions, and clear photos or drawings.
